Your Personal Book Discovery Guide
Looks 4 Books is an AI-powered book recommendation engine built to help you find your next favorite read. You tell it what you already love, from books and authors to movies and the mood you are in. It builds a picture of your taste from that, and suggests books that fit.
How It Works
Every book is scored three ways:
- AI semantic understanding: OpenAI embeddings capture the deeper themes, writing styles, and narrative elements that make two books feel alike, well past what a genre label can tell you.
- Genre and subject matching: subjects, themes, and keywords are matched against the genres and mood you chose.
- Quality signals: ratings, popularity, and edition counts keep the results on books that readers actually love.
The mix is not fixed. How much each part counts shifts with what you give us. Name a few favorite books and the semantic side leads, because your own shelf is the strongest signal there is. Give us only a genre and a mood and the subject side carries more of the weight.
Our Database
Looks 4 Books draws from a curated catalog of 8,100+ books, spanning fiction and non-fiction across all major genres. The records are assembled from Google Books, Open Library, and the New York Times bestseller lists, then cleaned up by hand. Every book has been embedded using OpenAI's text-embedding-3-small model, which is what lets us find similarities that plain keyword matching would miss.
We also integrate with The Movie Database (TMDB) so you can start from a favorite film or series, because great stories travel across mediums.
Privacy & Your Data
Looks 4 Books has no accounts and no sign-in. Your answers stay in your own browser, and nothing you type is attached to a profile.
There is one thing we save, and only when you ask us to. If you create a share link for a set of results, that shelf is stored so the link keeps working for whoever you send it to. Nothing else about you is stored alongside it, and shared pages are kept out of search engines.
We use analytics to understand which parts of the app work and which do not. We never sell your data and we never track you across the web.
